The winter of 1777 at Valley Forge cut through the camp like a blade. At dawn, the air carried a peppermint-cold wind, sharp enough to sting the lungs. Snow crackled beneath the soldiers’ boots, releasing the crisp bite of juniper ice and the clean chill of tea tree drifting from the surgeon’s hut.

Around the cabins, the faint warmth of Virginia and Atlas cedar mixed with the frozen stillness of the Siberian fir standing sentinel over the encampment. Beneath it all rose the quiet, earthy steadiness of vetiver and soft spruce, grounding the men against the bitter frost.
