Forbidden City of China's Ming Dynasty was named such Due to its unavailability to most of the royal subjects of the emperor's court. Even the Royal Family were only allowed to visit certain areas of the 178-acre palace grounds, with only the emperor himself being able to visit any place he so wished. The Forbidden City was the center of Chinas power for more than 5 Centuries until 1911-12 when the Chinese rebellion took place.

Originally constructed in 1406 the first inhabitants didn't live there until 1420.
