Roanoke Colony was founded in 1585, This was Sir Walter Raleigh's attempt to colonize the new world. Ralp Lane was the Governor that founded the colony. Ralph left the 110-121 colonists with Sir Francis Drake to go back to England for supplies. During the first year of settlement the colonist had little supplies and poor relations with the Native Americans.  two weeks after Ralph left for England Sir Richard Grenville arrived on his resupply mission and left some men and provisions before returning to England.

In the Following year of 1587, Another Group of Colonists led by John White settled on Roanoke Island. White brought with him his pregnant daughter whom shortly after settling gave birth to the first English person in North America, Virginia Dare. White left promptly back for England to gather more supplies but was delayed by the Anglo-Spanish War and could not return. In 1588 the Flagship of Simon Fernandes stopped at Roanoke Island to check on Grenville's men, only to find the settlement fortified yet abandoned. The Only clue found was the cryptic word "CROATOAN" carved into a tree. They took this to mean the settlers moved to Croatoan Island but did not have time to go and investigate.

Somewhere in 1587-1588 the Colonists vanished without a trace. Some think they assimilated with the local Native Americans. Some think they were abducted by aliens; some think the turned to cannibalism. The one thing we do know for sure is that they disappeared without a trace.......
