Are Red Beards Different?

Are Red Beards Different?

Understanding the Science Behind Your Red Beard

Are there distinct differences in my red beard? As opposed to someone with a brown beard. The answer is no!

Red facial hair is caused by a mutation to the MC1R gene that is tied to the pigmentation of facial hair follicles. To achieve having and growing a red beard only requires 1 copy of this mutated gene as opposed to 2 copies in red headed individuals. Scientists believe this is why 40% of men with facial hair that grows out red happens, rather than having red head hair as well.

Essentially, somewhere in your family tree an ancestor also sported red facial hair or head hair. While red heads are a miniscule 1-2% of the total hair colored gene pool, red beards are much more common. Now take my own personal family for instance. I am 1 of 4 brothers with facial hair. I do not have red in my facial hair, but each of my brothers in fact do! isn't that wild!? the simple science behind that is simple inheritance of family traits. Maybe you recall learning about a Punnett Square in biology class in high school? The purpose of the square is to explain how dominate vs. recessive genes are passed from parents to their offspring.

My mother was a full-blown ginger. yet none of her children inherited red hair, but rather some inherited red facial hair. while using the Punnett square doesn't exactly tell you or rather explain why you got that specific trait passed to you, it still offers a glimpse as to maybe why.

Taking care of your Beard is so very crucial to helping maintain its healthy look and feel. Red, Black, Brown, Gray, White or Blonde it doesn't matter.

    1. To help maintain your Glorius red beard i would first suggest you make sure you're keeping that man mane clean with a top quality daily non-stripping beard wash. Having a daily beard wash for use every day, is essential for proper Maintenace and health of the beard.
    2. Now, time to get a top quality 100% natural Beard Oil in that beard. Using beard oil twice daily helps seal in that moisture and protect the hair shafts form the harsh environments or direct sunlight. without using a beard oil, you are leaving your beard exposed to easier breakage and more itchiness and tangles.
    3. Get yourself a great beard comb! after your beard has been washed and beard oil has been applied it is now time to comb that bad boy! My favorite beard comb to use in a Chicago Comb no.8. No, they are not paying me to say this, I just truly believe in what they're doing, and results speak for themselves!

Now that you have all those most crucial steps taken care of, you are now ready to take on the day! Be proud of whatever facial hair graces your face and rock it with pride!
